Rafael Cox's Redemption Fashion Show on February  21st,  2013 was the reveal of the Spring/Summer Collection at the Defoor Center In Atlanta Georgia. Rafael Cox is widely known for being a designer contestant on Season 9 Project Runway. Ever since he left the show many viewers have been keeping a close eye on Rafael to see what endeavors he dabbles in next.

Other Accomplishments: His designs were featured at fashion shows such as Dress for Success, Clark Atlanta Homecoming, Morehouse Homecoming, and well renowned Project X fashion shows. Cox's designs have been worn by celebrities including: Rocsi of 106 & Park, Diamond of Crime Mod, Dondria Nicole of SoSo Def Records, and Kalenna of Dirty Money.
Rafael was also costume designer for Kandi Burruss (of Real HouseWives of Atlanta) during her tour with American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino.

Last Night

  • His collection had trendy themes of peplum, ruffles, backless, side cut outs, color blocking and neon.
  • He used 9 vibrant colors to piece together this cohesive story.
  • Ruffles are trending for 2013 and 2014.
  • The neon trend became mainstream in 2012 but still is lingering around, and will for a while.
  •  Cosmic blue and turquoise (as well as the combination of the two) has been predicted predicted as a constant of 2014 fashions.
  • Wider elaborate sleeves are also a thing of the future.

The audience before the big show starts.
I was sitting in front of where the models came out on the row with Rafael's special guest including his family members and the Hostess's Family. The first piece is an eye catching long sleeve fitting flowing dressed with a thigh high slit on the right.

The Second piece in vibrant purple peplum shirt with structured sleeves and layered high-low ruffles on the bottom.

This Color blocked long sleeve dress is a stunning color combination.
This Color Blocked jacket was one of my favorite pieces of the show for its shape AND color.
The wide leg pant counters the slender multi color jacket, giving an A-line shape from top to bottom.

I was in love with this peplum turquoise long sleeve dress.

The scoop back is exquisite and seductive.
The combination of leather and chiffon is alluding to next year's trends.
I'm staring to see this chiffon strip on the bottom of dresses more and more.
Amazing. You can never go wrong with crisp white.
Hot pink cut out backless dress is incredibly sexy.
The sharp angles give the woman wearing this dress power to command the entire room.

Rafael comes out to give his thanks and appreciation for the audience, his staff, hostess, friends and family, God and others after the collection is completely revealed.

After the show I captured a few pictures of his guests.
Atlanta songstress Vina Mills was in the audience tonight looking chic in her trendy color blocked dress (reminiscent of Rafael's Collection.)
Vina Mills has singles called "Love Em Good", "Cry Baby", and "Love Again" available on iTunes and is taking the city by storm while simultaneously getting well deserved credit for her fashionably savvy presentation.
Her presence definitely did not go unnoticed.
Shay "Buckeey" Johnson from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta (and Flavor of Love) and the beautiful  Host of the fashion show DJ Traci Steele from Atlanta's 107.9 Hip Hop Radio Station.
Fashionable Spectator dressed in sleek all black and gold.
Her black and gold heels with the trash bag ankles and gold plates around the front.
Perfect pop of color fiery red lipstick with the monochromatic outfit.
Two Fashionistos that were staff of the event.
The promotional poster with The Designer and the Hostess.
Me on the Red Carpet!!!
Here I am wearing a Cosmic Blue peplum dress with black lace around the neckline from Shasa and black and white polka-dot platform wedges from Forever 21.

This event was fun, tasteful, and satisfactory. I'm so glad I went. It was time well spent. Being out among Fashion Elite ATLiens has inspired me.

Thank You Rafael Cox for working so hard to produce a fabulous collection and show.

Bright, Bold, Beautiful

I love the rich hues of these colors right next to each other. The saturation of the blue and the red not only do not drown each other out, but they give life to one another.  Here I wear a very cheap chic outfit. Read the captions of the pictures to see how. Click on the links in the post for similar looks.

This look was inspired by seeing a picture on Instagram when I first created my account (@Houstonscott) of Jennifer Hudson wearing a Turquoise shirt and Fire red skirt. The contrast of color was so seductive I can still see it clearly in my mind.  I was so shocked at the unusual but beautiful color combination and knew I had to try it.
I am a very colorful person when it comes to my wardrobe anyways so why not just take it there!

Bright and Bold is better than being Dull and Cold.
The Sheer skirt is from Shasa (12$)  but various colors of this same style can be found at Forever 21 for under 20$.
Floral prints are still in for this year! They covered the runway in previous years and 2013.
Shirt thrifted from Goodwill. (a few dollars)
Shades Courtesy of: Matthew Garrett
The black belt cinches in the waist and provides smoother transition from bold color, to bold color.
I got these heels for 20$ on the clearance rack at a store called Shi by Journey's.

I love this purse I got from Target a few years ago for cheap (under 20$).
I found a floral Laptop Tote at Target that I would love to carry to classes (30$).

Green ring to accent the green on the heels (Forever 21).
Forever 21's rings and earrings are very reasonably priced.
Bright Red lipstick was a powerful match to the blouse.
Pearl necklace and my flower earrings from Forever 21.
